Check out our new Health Registry page for information on the Southwest Pennsylvania Environmental Health Project’s work on developing a web-based health registry to continue to raise national awareness and understanding of the health impacts of shale gas and oil activities.
PACWA’s mission is to raise awareness of the dangers of hydraulic fracturing
on public health and the environment, and to halt any activity that threatens the quality of life of the residents of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
And what is PACWA, exactly?
The Pennsylvania Alliance for Clean Water and Air is a group of concerned citizens in Western Pennsylvania with the common goal of protecting our natural resources and the environment- primarily from the dangers of hydraulic fracturing (or “fracking”) in the Marcellus Shale
Play. Through public meetings and the media, we are committed to spreading the word about the:
- hazards of pollution to our water, air, and land from chemicals and VOCs.
- increased demand for fresh water sources (1 to 5 MILLION gallons per gas well)
- strains on public services and infrastructure due to increased traffic/population
- negative impacts from pollution and development on wildlife and nature
